Data-Driven, Precision Nutrition

Body Composition & Metabolic Testing

Gain actionable insights from biometric testing to understand your metabolism and body composition, to build a lifestyle plan that works for you.

** All services are provided by registered dietitians **

Baseline Testing Session

Your first session will be an in-person baseline testing session which includes both Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) and Body Composition testing to give you a clear picture of how your body works - how much energy you burn at rest and what your body is made of. This data forms the foundation of your personalized nutrition strategy.

From there, we build on that foundation with a comprehensive nutrition assessment in your follow-up session. That’s where we dive deeper into your current habits, goals, and lifestyle to design a plan that’s targeted, sustainable, and results-driven.

Resting metabolic rate (RMR) testing helps you to fuel with clarity by measuring your metabolism.

Ever wonder if you’re overeating or undereating?

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is the number of calories (energy) your body needs to maintain essential functions, like breathing, circulation, and temperature regulation, while at complete rest. Essentially, an RMR test measures how many calories you burn doing nothing more than sitting in a chair.

Think of RMR as your body’s engine - it tells you what your body’s horsepower is. Because everyone is different, we all burn energy at different rates. Testing your RMR takes the guesswork out by using an actual measurement of your metabolism as the basis for your nutrition and lifestyle plans.

Indirect calorimetry, the gold-standard technology behind the RMR test, relies on the fact that burning 1 calorie (Kilocalorie) requires 208.06 milliliters of oxygen. Because of this very direct relationship between caloric burn and oxygen consumed, measurements of oxygen uptake (VO2) and caloric burn rate are virtually interchangeable.

It is recommended to test every 3-6 months to monitor and track progress.

Pre-test Requirements

It is desirable to measure a person’s metabolic rate at a true resting level. To ensure one is at rest, we recommend the following preparation:

  • To ensure accuracy, please reschedule if you have cold or flu-like symptoms.

  • Fasting: No food for 6-8 hours; water is okay but don't overdo it. Ideally, come in a fasted state. Feel free to bring a snack for after the test.

  • Caffeine: Avoid all caffeine-containing products, including pre-workouts, 20-24 hours prior. Be mindful of decaffeinated items.

  • Exercise: No exercise on test day. If you work out the night before, keep it light.

  • During the test it will be important to get into a comfortable position and relax as much as possible.

  • Keep lips sealed lightly around the mouthpiece. It is important that all the air breathed out is analyzed by your KORR® machine.

Body Composition testing helps you to understand what your body is made of - fat, muscle or water - so you can track progress beyond the scale.

Ever wonder if you are losing fat or building muscle?

Unlike weight alone, body composition testing helps you understand the quality of your progress - whether you're building lean muscle, losing fat, or doing both (body re-composition). This insight is especially useful when your weight stays the same but your body is changing underneath.

Within 15 seconds, the InBody 270 gives you clear, actionable data you can use to adjust your nutrition, training or recovery plan with clarity. It tracks your skeletal muscle mass and percent body fat percentage from the last eight tests to track progress over time.

This allows you to spot trends, make informed changes, and stay focused on long-term results, not just short-term fluctuations. Whether your goal is fat loss, muscle gain, or body recomposition, this tool helps keep your progress objective and on track.

It is recommended to test every 2-4 weeks to monitor and track the progress.

Pre-test Requirements

It is not necessary to fast before the Body Composition test.

  • Medical Devices: Individuals with pacemakers or other electronic medical devices should not take the test.

  • Clothing: Wear lightweight clothing and be prepared to stand barefoot.

  • Washroom: Use the bathroom immediately before the test.

  • Limit Intake: Limit food or caffeine 2-4 hours prior.

  • Exercise: No exercise within 4 hours; ideally, within 12 hours.

  • Hydration: Be normally hydrated but avoid excessive fluid intake.

  • Timing: For best practices, try to test around the same time of day.

  • Alcohol: Limit alcohol 24 hours before the test.

No more guessing your calories, protein & macros.

The Gold Standard Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) breathing test shows exactly how many calories your body burns at rest - no formulas, no estimates. The Indirect Calorimetry method we use is the Gold Standard in scientific metabolism testing.

This is paired with a Body Composition Analysis to see what’s changing beneath the surface: fat, muscle, and water mass. With real data in hand, our dietitians set personalized targets for your calories, protein, and macros - so you can fuel your body with clarity and confidence.
